Visions Summer 2024

It has been a while since our last post about Bullers of Buchan in June. But Visions activities don’t stop during the summer, our program carries on. Following a few of the images taken during the our various programmed activities.

27 June – Social night at the Noose and Monkey

9 July – Isle of May Bird photography

All kitted out and ready for the trip to the Isle of May. Great bird photography awaits. A bit of rain on the way back I understand, but enjoyed by all.

11 July – Team Competition: “Capturing Movement” outing

18 July – Finding the treasure from June Treasure hunt

A few. pics from the Treasure Hunt in Aberdeen city centre organised by Susan Gordon. All these by Derek Masson.

25 July – Aberdeen City Centre WalkaboutNuart fun

Every year Aberdeen commissions artists to create paintings on various buildings around the town centre. Visions then have an evening trying to capture some of these. The challenge is to produce something different than just a straight shot of the artwork. Harder than you might think.

1 August – Member’s Night – PhotoPills camp (Dave L) / Beautiful Islands (Lynda)

15 August – Food and Commercial Photography by Neil Gordon

Neil Gordon is a commercial photographer in Aberdeen and showed us some of his work with entertaining stories and useful technical info. He also brought along a lot of his equipment for us to have a look at. Amongst other things he showed us how he takes and edits the impressive shots of houses for upmarket estate agents.

22 August – Competition: “Capturing Movement” Team Discussion and Selection

29 August – Astro Talk by Simon White from White Sky Photographics

Always an informative evening with Simon White who is clearly enthusiastic about the universe. Some great photos and astounding facts.

Simon White and some of the specialist gear he brought along. Tracking devices on top of the tripods to compensate for the earth’s rotation allow for longer exposures and less need for high ISO values. Looking forwards to going out with him on a clear night. Last time was a great success, not only the Milky Way but the Northern Lights also made an unscheduled appearance. Fingers crossed!

5 September – Walk around Old Aberdeen

Led by Stephen Lynch, we met at the Cathedral and explored the area and buildings. Some of us ended up inside the new library building which I think is even more fascinating on the inside. Gradually we all found our way back to the St Machar bar with its huge collection of whiskies

12 September – Summer Team Competition Results – Capturing Movement
