Visions Photography Club is an active and dynamic group based in Aberdeen with a membership that includes photographers of all levels of experience.  The focus is not solely on competitions, but on helping each other to become better photographers through social interactions, practical sessions and outings. We want every Visions member to enjoy photography and that can be with a mobile phone camera, a compact camera, a bridge camera, a DSLR or even film if you prefer.

Visions is running face to face meetings at the Ruthrieston centre in Holburn street, Aberdeen, on Thursday evenings and the occasional virtual session (via Zoom) which allows us access to speakers from other locations, for example from other parts of the UK or even recently from the USA.

  • Our private Facebook page visionsphotographyclub.com is very active, and we are running fun photo competitions every month. Access to the Visions FB page is automatically granted for club members.
  • You can see the programme of events here.

Please feel free to get in touch with us, we are always keen to welcome new members to Visions.

We look forward to welcoming you to our camera club!

Editors choice of his favourite 20 Visions images from 2023 is here

‘Visions’ Christmas outing at the Globe. Only our most dedicated member brought a proper camera to our last gathering of 2023. Good to chat with fellow Visioneers, and looking forward to a successful 2024 year for the club.

Some members did manage to stay awake at the start of our Knowledge Exchange session. Aimed at the less experienced, we had 4 tables with an “expert” at each, who ran short 20 minutes sessions on a variety of technical subjects. Club members brought their cameras to try things out and ask questions. Subjects included exposure, shutter speeds, focussing and data backup. Well attended and a success. To be repeated at some future date.

A recent outing at Aberdeen beach produced some amazing images courtesy of ex Visions members Alan and Kevin doing a fire spinning and LED light show. More here on our blog.

In the last couple of months we’ve had a fun social outing to an Italian restaurant, and had interesting talks on Greenland by Lynda Gordon, a talk by Graeme Youngson on life as a Football Club Photographer and one by Dave Lee on his forays into different types of Sport Photography. Our quarterly competition subject this time was ‘Patterns’. It was organised as a team event, a great way to get to know your fellow club members. Below the highest scoring images from this team competition.

See all the entries for the ‘Patterns” Competition here on our Blog.

Our head man Dave Lynch wrote an excellent article about astro landscape photography for the RPS magazine. It is a great introduction to the subject with some beautiful images. After putting the original pdf through the blender and re-constituting it to fit in with the WordPress blog format, you can now read it if you go to our blog pages via the menu above. Or you could just click here.

Members of our camera club have been busy posting images on our club Facebook page during July. Below a few to show the variety of material posted.

A few Visions members went up to Peterhead to see the Red Arrows on Friday 21 July. Well timed capture here by David Drage.

Cool shot by Sue Heard of the Red Arrows.
