On Thursday 6th March 2025 we organised an evening with fire spinning and light painting run by former club members Alan Meek and Kevin Dawson. For some years they have specialised in creating things that don’t look like much when you are there, but turn into amazing things when you look at the long exposure image your camera has just captured.

Screen grab from a video by Pamela Adam, showing clearly what we humans see instead of the trails captured by the long exposures in the camera.
The ingredients for the fire spinning are quite simply, a ball of wire wool, an egg whisk on a string and a 9 volt battery to light the wire wool.

Ready for action at the tunnel.

Here is one I captured where the fire spinner is visible. You can clearly see the trail of the egg whisk (the thicker one) and the thin trails of the flying sparks of wire wool.
Once the tide went out a bit we turned round to face the beach for part two.

Cameras at the ready.
Fancy LED light sabres are used to create elaborate shapes during 30 second and longer exposures.

Here is one we did earlier.
Pamela Adam made sure we kept warm and fed.

Below a selection from the images our members posted on our FB page.

It was a fun evening. Many thanks to Kevin and Alan for the show and Pamela for the refreshments.
Please leave a comment - we would love to hear from you.
