This week at Visions we had a studio night and got some lessons in flash photography from our resident expert Icarus Owen. Thanks to our lovely volunteer model Shelley McDonald for patiently posing all evening while we practised our skills.
We were delighted to hear that, for the third time in five years, Visions member Stewart Mitchell of Earthly Light Photography has had an image commended by the judges in the UK Landscape Photographer of the year competition. It will appear in the awards book, which is now published, and will be exhibited with all the other winners in London during December and January. The winners and commended list can be viewed in full here: http://www.take-a-view.co.uk/2014_winners_list.htm

Tonight at Visions we welcomed Dougie Bogie and the Aberdeen Fire Spinners to the club. We had loads of fun trying to take photos of the various lights inside the centre, and then the fire spinning outside in the car park. Was great to see a few new members enjoying themselves tonight (remember to let us know if you are interested in joining, there is usually a small waiting list but we are always delighted to welcome new members). Here are some of the results of our efforts tonight. Also check out the Aberdeen Fire Spinners Facebook page for more information on their events. They will be at Aden Country Park on the evening of 30th October so well worth a visit and they are always keen to recruit new members.
A small group of our Visions members will be heading up to Peterhead to support our friends at Craigwan Photography Group. They are holding a Charity night this Thursday night to raise money for Clan. The night will involve a slideshow talk with guest speaker David Walker from Inverness. This will take place in the Score Building, Glen Test facility from 7.30pm. Slides will include wildlife and landscape images and tickets cost £5. Here is a link to the speakers Flickr page. https://www.flickr.com/photos/dcw1967/
This Thursday night we are going to be treated to a talk by Jodie Mann. Her photography is spectacular and we are looking forward to getting some top tips and inspiration from her 🙂 Check out her fabulous website at the link below.
This Thursday some of the Visions members will be meeting up for a snapping session at Old Aberdeen. Our outings are a great opportunity for members to get inspiration, tips and advice from others while getting some great shots. Look out for us if you’re around the area on Thursday night.
*UPDATE* Take a look at some of the photos from Thursday night. A great collection of images from our members.
This week’s meeting began with a viewing of Graham Youngson’s top 10 photos which were chosen from our group Facebook page. We were then treated to a presentation by Mel Stephens where he showed us some of his lovely Autumn images and inspired us to get out taking photos in this colourful season. Mel also discussed the photo stacking technique which he has used very successfully in his photography. The evening finished with a practical presentation by Pamela Adam on mindfulness with cameras which got the group thinking and out with their cameras. A selection of Autumn Photos by Mel Stephens
